American Sign Language Software Recommendations
If you absolutely must buy one...
...buy one of these! I have searched and searched for the best American Sign Language software. I have checked them out and read the reviews of others. Sadly, there aren't that many good ones out there. But, I can say that the ones listed below are recommended:
 | Rocket American Sign Language
I have seen this software advertised everywhere, but I have never tried it. They have a very extensive sales page, but I tried their free trial, and I really like the software. The quality is great, the games are fun, and it's available in an instant download (no waiting for shipping and loading CDs into your computer). This software is more expensive than others I've seen, but not too expensive. If you want a great sofware that doesn't have any bad reviews (that I've found), then this should be your first pick. |
 | ASL 1 - Offline Version The Start ASL online class is available as an instant download. This one file contains all of the ASL 1 class Lessons, Readings, Videos, and Workbook. Only one download and you will have full access to the ASL 1 class on your computer without an internet connection. I highly recommend this if you need access to the class offline, need to download the videos all at once, don't like the advertisements in the lessons, or want an easy way to share the ASL 1 lessons in the classroom! |
 | Visualize ASL Visualize ASL develops unique, interactive CDs featuring real people who are Deaf and use ASL as native signers. Their entertaining, visual learning approach can quickly expand your ASL vocabulary. I think this is a great way to learn vocabulary--visually instead of through English translations. I definitely recommend these CD's if you need to grow your ASL vocabulary. |
 | QuickStart American Sign Language
I have heard great things about this software. It's great for beginners and has a very affordable price! |
 | Instant Immersion American Sign Language Deluxe
This software comes with 8 CDs that cannot be loaded onto your computer. If you want to use the software, you have to have the CDs with you. If you don't mind carrying around CDs, or if you are only going to use the software on your home computer, then I recommend this product. It teaches you Deaf history, the grammar of ASL, and has great easy-to-see videos for over 6,000 words. |
 | American Sign Language Dictionary Platinum Edition
If you want to take an ASL dictionary with you and see videos for tons of signs, then this software is for you! |
I know, I know, this list is disappointingly short. But that makes it easier to choose one, right? If you have had a fabulous experience with an ASL software that is not mentioned on this page, please contact me and let me know. I will gladly add it to this list. You can also find more of my recommendations in My Library.
