American Sign Language Software Recommendations

If you absolutely must buy one...

...buy one of these!

We have searched and searched for the best American Sign Language software. We have checked them out and read the reviews of others. Sadly, there aren't that many good ones out there. But, we can say that the ones listed below are recommended:

The Best American Sign Language Software

sign language software
The Start ASL Offline Package
by Michelle Jay
The Start ASL online classes are available as an instant download. These files contain all of the ASL 1, 2, & 3 class Lessons, Readings, Videos, and Workbook. Only three downloads and you will have full access to the ASL 1, 2 & 3 classes on your computer without an internet connection. We highly recommend this if you need access to the classes offline, need to download the videos all at once, want to watch the videos in slower motion, or don't like the advertisements in the lessons!

Rocket American Sign Language
We have seen this software advertised everywhere, but we have never tried it. They have a very extensive sales page, but we tried their free trial, and we really like the software. The quality is great, the games are fun, and it's available in an instant download (no waiting for shipping and loading CDs into your computer). This software is great for beginners and may be too easy if you know a lot of the basic ASL vocabulary. This software is more expensive than others we've seen, but not too expensive. If you want a great sofware that doesn't have any bad reviews (that we've found), then this should be your first pick.

Visualize ASL - Volume 1: Basic Vocabulary and Fingerspelling
Visualize ASL develops unique, interactive CDs featuring real people who are Deaf and use ASL as native signers. Their entertaining, visual learning approach can quickly expand your ASL vocabulary. We think this is a great way to learn vocabulary--visually instead of through English translations. We definitely recommend these CD's if you need to grow your ASL vocabulary.

QuickStart American Sign Language
We have heard great things about this software. It's great for beginners and has a very affordable price!

Instant Immersion American Sign Language Deluxe
This American Sign Language software comes with 8 CDs that cannot be loaded onto your computer. If you want to use the software, you have to have the CDs with you. If you don't mind carrying around CDs, or if you are only going to use the software on your home computer, then we recommend this product. It teaches you Deaf history, the grammar of ASL, and has great easy-to-see videos for over 6,000 words.

American Sign Language Dictionary Platinum Edition
If you want to take an ASL dictionary with you and see videos for tons of signs, then this American Sign Language software is for you!

I know, I know, this list is disappointingly short. But that makes it easier to choose one, right?

If you have had a fabulous experience with an American Sign Language software that is not mentioned on this page, please contact us and let us know. We will gladly add it to this list.
