In this unit as you learn asl online, you will be learning how to convey distance.

Conversation

Read this outline, and then watch the conversation in action on the video clip. Try to recognize what is being said. Watch the video again until you can follow the conversation without the outline.

A: WHAT-DO YOU SEE NEW CLOTHES STORE THEY PUT
"Did you see the new clothing store they put in?"

B: NO WHERE LOCATION WHERE?
"No, where is it?"

A: IT NICE. IT NEXT TO FOOD STORE.
"It's nice. It's next to the grocery store."

B: NO I PREFER SHOP MACY'S
"No, I prefer to shop at Macy's."

Conveying Distance

You can convey distance with non-manual behaviors. These behaviors specify whether something is far away, moderately far away, or close.

These behaviors should come pretty naturally. Watch the video below to see me demonstrate the different distances.

Conveying Distance Practice 7.1

Turn to page 8 in your workbook. I will be signing different locations at different distances away relative to the numbers in the picture. The answers will be from my perspective. For each description, write the number of the area on the line and what is at that location. The first one has been done for you.

When you're finished, check your answers in the back of the workbook. Go back and review the questions you missed. Then, go back and sign each description for practice.

Comprehension 7.2

Turn to page 9 in your workbook. The video below was used for the Pluralization Practice in the last unit. In the video below, Christine will sign 10 sentences. For each number, put an "X" next to the most accurate translation of the sentence.
