American Sign Language ASL

FAQ

Question: What is the American Sign Language ASL sign for...?

Answer: This website focuses mostly on the lessons and not so much on the dictionary. There are a lot of free online dictionaries out there, but no useful free lessons.

First, if you want to know the sign for something that isn't in our dictionary, we highly suggest investing in this book:

American Sign Language Dictionary, Third Edition
by Martin L. Sternberg
This is the dictionary that we own and love. It's a huge book and explains more than 5,000 signs and has over 8,000 illustrations. You definitely need to have a dictionary like this if you are learning American Sign Language! When you want to look up an obscure word, it's most likely in here!

Second, we highly suggest using these online dictionaries as additional resources:

They have a lot more words than we do, so we recommend them for dictionary resources.
