...and why I love this site so much!

My name is Michelle, and after making my first deaf friend in Jr. High School, I was dying to learn how to sign. I signed up for a college ASL 1 course, and at age 13, I fell in love with ASL.

By the time I graduated high school, I had completed 5 college-level ASL courses.

I was then accepted into California State University, Northridge into their famous Deaf Studies program. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Deaf Studies with an emphasis in Teaching.

By this time, I realized that I not only love ASL, I also love graphic and web design! And now, you find yourself here. StartASL.com is the perfect mesh of my two favorite things.

And with the help of my husband, Rich (the love of my life), and his filmmaking skills, I am able to put together great video lessons that you can watch from home for free.

About This Site

I know you came here to learn American Sign Language, but I decided to add this section because I get a lot of questions about why I give away so much information for free.

Ever since I realized how much I love teaching ASL and how much I want to share this beautiful language, I knew that I wanted to build a website just like this one.
